About The Role
The Finance Consultant will be a key contributor to the Consulting team which serves mid-sized enterprises across a variety of industries including information technology, construction, real estate, healthcare, government contracting, and emerging entrepreneurs. While the tasks of the Finance Consultant vary based on assigned projects, the main responsibilities will be to advise and assist clients in both optimizing their finance function and accomplishing business objectives. In this role, the Finance Consultant will spend most of their time assessing financial and business situations, developing, and presenting strategies and plans, and monitoring changes in financial status and business performance. Our ideal Finance Consultant is comfortable and confident in bridging the gap between information technology (IT) and business by using data analytics.
Responsibilities
- Provide creative and pragmatic solutions to address complex scenarios in areas such as:
- Mergers & Acquisitions support, including services throughout the entire process from buy/sell decisions and strategies, due diligence, critical transactional elements, closing assistance, and integration activities
- Comprehensive business planning to achieve short and long-term goals
- Corporate operational assessments and process improvements
- Cost, profitability, cash, and budget management
- Financial analysis and document review to support litigation services
- Build quantitative problem-solving models and understand solution behavior to generate results and advise clients
- Assemble, update, and maintain datasets to test, query, filter, analyze, and/or report on specified elements, characteristics, behaviors, and results
- Provide financial management information by preparing advanced financial status analyses and written reports
- Communicate with clients to discuss financial and operational goals, explain proposed business plans and options, explain advantages and risks, and answer questions
- Monitors clients' financial situation by tracking changes in wealth and life circumstances; analyzing financial plan results; identifying and evaluating new financial strategies; recommending changes in goals and plans
- Update job knowledge by tracking industry-specific economic conditions; participating in educational opportunities, such as webinars; reading professional and technical publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

About You
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Information, Technology Management (or related quantitative field).
- Minimum 3.00 GPA
- 0-2 years of experience in a related position in finance, business, accounting, or consulting (academic achievement and internship experience may qualify & recent graduates encouraged to apply)
- Ideal candidates have coursework in financial management, finance, statistics, accounting, and other related business courses
- Overall understanding of the finance function roles and activities
- Technologically savvy with experience using technical software applications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (we work in financial services, but we still like to laugh)
- Comfortable and confident in writing both long and short formats, such as whitepapers and blog posts
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and financial systems
- Ability to solve a mixture of quantitative and qualitative problems
- Aptitude in creative problem solving
- Strong organizational skills
- A positive attitude and outstanding work ethic

How long do the internships last?
Internship contracts start with a 3-month (semester-long) commitment, however, can be extended for candidates who express interest. Many interns choose to stay on as interns until they graduate from their undergraduate degree, and move into Jr. Staff or Staff Accountant positions.
What will my schedule look like?
When you become an intern at R&W we will ask for your availability. Our goal is to make it a flexible opportunity for you that surrounds your school and extracurricular schedule. Our core hours are Monday-Friday 9 AM-4 PM, so generally, there will be overlap with these times.
When do internships start?
Internships generally align with university semester schedules (Fall, Spring, and Summer start dates). However, these dates can be flexible to match your needs!
Where can I intern?
Internship placements can be based out of our 3 office locations; Bethesda, MD, Frederick, MD, and Vienna, VA.
How many hours will I put in?
Interns generally work between 25-29 hours per week. Your hours might look different if you have a midterm, final, or soccer game coming up. We are here to support you at school and in the office.
